Mayer, was introduced in 1990 and has since become a commonplace phrase.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In his book <a href=\"https:\/\/www.goodreads.com\/book\/show\/26329.Emotional_Intelligence?from_search=true&amp;from_srp=true&amp;qid=MskQTn5uqx&amp;rank=1\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"><em>Emotional Intelligence: Why It Can Matter More Than IQ<\/em><\/a>, Daniel Goleman defines emotional intelligence as <em>\u201cthe capacity for recognizing our own feelings and those of noopener\">interpersonal communication<\/a> in the workplace, which also means it can severely impact our overall performance.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In fact, it\u2019s so vital that Goleman considers Both you and your colleague are upset, and the problem is no closer to its solution.<\/td><td>You acknowledge that you are angry at your colleague for forgetting to send that report, but you take a deep breath and pause. Self-Determination in Human Behavior<\/em><\/a>, Deci and Ryan claim that, if we want to persist at anything, we need mechanisms that initiate and maintain effort \u2014 <strong>motivation<\/strong>.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>However, there are two types of motivation:&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Intrinsic motivation<\/strong> \u2014 stems from inside the individual \u2014 we do something because we find it interesting and satisfying.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Extrinsic motivation<\/strong> \u2014 stems from outside the individual \u2014 we do something because it leads to a tangible reward.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<p>Intrinsic motivation plays a critical role in emotional intelligence \u2014 emotionally intelligent and successful people know how to motivate themselves.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>They seek internal, rather than external rewards.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Deci and Ryan\u2019s theory presupposes that people are naturally self-motivated, but, sometimes, under the influence of circumstances and the environment, we become passive and disaffected.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Still, there are ways to improve our intrinsic motivation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 id=\"how-to-improve-motivation\" class=\"wp-block-heading\">How to improve motivation<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Maintain a positive attitude<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>If you\u2019re not a born optimist, worry not \u2014 optimism can be learned.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Underneath it all lies a so-called <a href=\"https:\/\/www.frontiersin.org\/journals\/psychology\/articles\/10.3389\/fpsyg.2021.563070\/full\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"><em>Intrinsic Rewards and Employee\u2019s Performance With the Mediating Mechanism of Employee\u2019s Motivation<\/em><\/a>, there is a <strong>strong correlation between intrinsic rewards (satisfaction at doing a good job and a sense of purpose in the workplace) and employee performance<\/strong>.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>So, intrinsic rewards are an important part of a workplace motivational strategy and should be combined with Workplace Empathy<\/em><\/a>, it should be improved \u2014 as 84% of employees and HR professionals believe that <strong>empathy is undervalued in business organizations<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 id=\"how-to-improve-empathy\" class=\"wp-block-heading\">How to improve empathy<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Consider the situation from another person\u2019s point of view<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Before jumping to conclusions and judgments, consider the other person\u2019s perspective.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>If you\u2019re not sure how other people feel,
