conversation starters at work<\/strong>?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Basically, you should limit their use to people you already know fairly well.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>After all, even professional comedians can never be sure about the types of jokes that will \u201cland\u201d well with their audiences. <strong>The only way you can be reasonably sure that your joke won\u2019t offend anyone is if you know your interlocutors\u2019 preferences<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>On top of that, you should also consider your hierarchical position within the company.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Even though having a sense of humor is seen as an advantage for those in leadership positions, <a href=\"https:\/\/hbr.org\/2025\/03\/research-when-laughing-becomes-labor\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">recent studies<\/a> have shown that employees can feel pressured to appear entertained when leaders use humor excessively.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Having to perform this way can <strong>exacerbate emotional exhaustion<\/strong> and <a href=\"https:\/\/pumble.com\/blog\/overcome-meeting-burnout-boost-productivity-tips\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">meeting burnout<\/a>, leading to <strong>decreased job
